How did I get here?

Whilst there are a wealth of resources to support our well-being; from apps to podcasts, to books and online forums, websites and videos, it might feel that there is still something missing - something we can't access alone. In relationship with a reliable professional we can be supported to see things more clearly and from there, make the choices that are right for us.

Contacting someone to receive professional support might feel like a big step. Clients are sometimes self-critical, telling me it feels difficult to acknowledge that something feels unmanageable by themselves. If this feels familiar, I hope that you too will be reassured to hear my belief that whatever brings you here takes courage and curiosity and carries hope for a better tomorrow.

Perhaps you are ....

  • Feeling stuck?

  • Feeling overwhelmed?

  • Experiencing trouble in your relationships?

  • Facing challenges that feel hard to manage?

  • Struggling with life stage or parenting?

  • Feeling uncertain about your future?

  • Feeling sad and lonely?

Can talking really help?

We cannot directly change other people and we often cannot change difficult circumstances which we find ourselves in - but with increased self-awareness, we can gain clarity about what we need and can choose to adapt our own responses.  We can make positive choices to support ourselves and build our resilience.

There is clear evidence that talking therapies improve mental health.

As an experienced professional I can provide a space outside your existing support network where you might safely explore your experience and concerns without worrying about my judgement or personal agenda.

It is your space. As a client once described it, our weekly sessions are their chance to press pause on life - a rare opportunity to engage with reflecting and exploring their feelings and experiences in a way that they simply would not be able to do alone.

With gentle and compassionate enquiry, we can explore what brings you here and how I might be able to support your process.

Together we might reflect on past experiences which might be shaping and informing today's feelings. With increased awareness we might notice patterns and through the work together, I can support you to become better equipped to manage whatever stressors or opportunities lie ahead.

For two people, therapy can be a safe, neutral space to have difficult conversations so both can feel heard and better understood. Practising with evidenced tools and techniques, couples can learn to overcome defensive patterns of communication which can be almost impossible to achieve without the support of a third person. â€‹If it emerges that the relationship difficulties are irreconcilable, I can help to manage a separation with respect for all involved.

Knowing where to turn

If you are in crisis - feeling unable to keep yourself or others safe - please contact your GP who can refer you directly to secondary care support, or call 111 or Samaritans on 116 123 who are available 24/7 to listen without judgement.

Accessing free NHS support outside of crisis can be done via your GP practice or locally, by self referral to NHS Oxfordshire Talking Therapies (previously Talking Space Plus). This is usually offered as self help online courses. Waiting lists will generally be long for one to one support if it is offered.

You will find additional signposting to charities, helplines and local services on the Resources page.

Accessing support privately may be available more quickly and has the further advantage that you choose who you work with. Finding the support that feels right for you is a critical factor in whether the therapy is effective. â€‹â€‹â€‹â€‹â€‹â€‹

Please be aware that without practitioner voluntary registration with a reputable professional body, such as UKCP (UK Council for Psychotherapy), BPC (British Psychoanalytic Council) or BACP (British Association of Counsellors and Psychotherapists) and for online work, ACTO (Association for Counselling and Therapy Online) clients have no recourse should they have any concerns about the therapy offered.
